When will Smile Squad visit my school?

Smile Squad is gradually rolling out across Victoria.

When Smile Squad reaches your area, they will invite your school to join the Smile Squad program.

If your school chooses to join Smile Squad, the school will give students a consent form for parents/carers to sign.

Smile Squad dental vans have started visiting schools in these areas:

  • Bass Coast
  • Brimbank
  • Campaspe
  • Casey
  • Darebin
  • East Gippsland
  • Frankston
  • Gannawarra
  • Greater Bendigo
  • Greater Shepparton
  • Hume
  • Latrobe
  • Maribyrnong
  • Monash
  • Northern Grampians
  • Southern Grampians
  • Swan Hill
  • Towong
  • Wangaratta
  • Warrnambool
  • Wellington
  • Whitehorse
  • Whittlesea
  • Wodonga
  • Wyndham
  • Yarra
  • Yarra Ranges

In term 1, 2022, Smile Squad will begin visiting schools in these areas:

  • Ballarat
  • Baw Baw
  • Indigo
  • Kingston
  • Maroondah
  • Mildura
  • Moreland
  • Nillumbik
  • Pyrenees

Smile Squad has also begun contacting schools in Hepburn, Hume, Macedon Ranges and Melton.

More rollout areas will be announced soon. Smile Squad will roll out across Victoria in 2022 and 2023 until all government schools in Victoria have been invited.

Who is eligible?

All students attending government schools are eligible for free treatment. They do not need a healthcare card, Medicare or the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.

All students attending Virtual School Victoria are eligible. Virtual School Victoria students can contact their community dental agency to make an appointment. Use this link to find the nearest community dental clinic.

 

How will the program be delivered?

What do schools need to do?

To save schools time and effort, DET and Department of Health have ensured that all Smile Squad services meet all legal and safety requirements. This means that your school:

  • Does NOT have to enter into a licence agreement when Smile Squad visits your school.
  • Does NOT have to check documentation regarding licences, registrations and insurance when Smile Squad visits your school.
  • All Smile Squad staff have undertaken Working with Children checks, and meet all COVID-19 guidelines required by the Department of Health and DET, including vaccination of staff.
